During the Battle of Britain in 1940, the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) became the symbol of women serving on the Home Front. WAAFs were a vital presence in radar stations and operation rooms, directing fighter aircraft against the Luftwaffe. They also worked with codes and ciphers, analysed reconnaissance photographs, and performed intelligence operations.

Le sujet est un membre de la WAAF (auxiliaire féminine de la RAF). Créées en 1939, les WAFF jouèrent un rôle crucial pendant la Bataille d'Angleterre dans le dépistage des bombardiers allemands et leur interception par les chasseurs de la RAF. Pendant toute la durée de la 2è GM, la WAAF fut le symbole de la femme anglaise au combat.

Le sujet est un roi guerrier de l'ère Vendel (550-799) comme on en rencontre dans les sagas nordiques et germaniques comme Beowulf ou plus proches de nous, dans la Trilogie des Anneaux de Tolkien.
Les peuples scandinaves de l'ère Vendel avaient une culture bien spécifique et florissante et sont considérés par les historiens comme les ancêtres des Vikings.

En espérant vous revoir lors d'une prochaine exposition.

The fall of the Roman empire saw the rise of Germanic kingdoms in Western Europe and in Scandinavia.
In Sweden, Uppland was the religious and political centre of a powerful kingdom with troops of mounted elite warriors. Numerous royal mounds and graves of mounted warriors with costly and elaborate armour of gilded bronze have been found in Vendel and Valsgärde. The Vendel people developed their own specific artistic and cultural style and were the forerunners of the Vikings. They were the source of inspiration for numerous Nordic and Germanic sagas like Beowulf and in more recent times, Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
